Man arrested in Burlington standoff suspected in shootings

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A man arrested after a standoff in Burlington is a suspect in a pair of drug-related shootings in neighboring communities earlier this month.

Police spotted Troy McIlwain, 23, Monday night in the Old North End and gave chase. McIlwain broke into an apartment on Front Street and holed up there for three hours before police finally convinced him to surrender.

He was arraigned Tuesday on multiple charges related to the standoff and on outstanding warrants.

Winooski police say McIlwain is a suspect in the Winooski home invasion that took place two weeks ago. Police and prosecutors also suspect he's connected to shootings June 8 in South Burlington.
