ST. ALBANS, Vt. -
You'll soon be able to hike and bike on trails in the St. Albans Town Forest.
Voters approved spending $10,000 on the development of a trail network in the 162-acre forest.
The town is also getting help from volunteers to clear paths and create a parking area for visitors.
The new trail network will enable people to better navigate the natural area and will make visiting safer.
"Getting some trails well routed and well marked so people feel safe out here and don't worry about getting lost is part of it," St. Albans Town Manager Gerry Myers said.
"It's a vast area and the largest unfragmented forest in St. Albans. There are tons of reasons to get out here and enjoy this property," said Nancy Patch, a forester in Franklin and Grand Isle counties. "This is a moment for this forest and this community."
Work on the new trails is expected to begin soon. A forest management plan also calls for improvements to song bird habitat and work on erosion control.
