One on One with the Man of "Steal"

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Monday Night, Scott interviewed Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee Rickey Henderson.  The All time leader in Steals and Runs scored is an Instructional Coach for the Oakland A's Organization.  He's working with the Lake Monsters until Friday.

Scott:  What do you tell these guys, especially at this level?

Rickey:  Basically, I just want to tell them about the game, telling them some of the things I went that kept me going and improving every year especially when you're down in the minor leagues.  You try to pick up on something that's going to make you improve each and every year.

Scott:  You're back with the Oakland A's organization; an organization that means a lot to you.

Rickey:  Yes, it means a lot to me.  They drafted me.  I played for them for about 17, 18 years. I did a lot with them as far as my record and my career with them and they've been good to me so, it's good to give back to the young kids and things that I learned from the veterans coming up as a young player and they taught me a lot so I'm just here to try and share some of that knowledge and help some kid get to where they need to get.

Scott:  You're in Vermont.  You're not going to be here long.  Anything you're looking forward too?  Have you ever been here before?

Rickey:  This is really my first time in Vermont, I got lost trying to come here today.  It's just a chance to look around, see the city, enjoy myself while I'm here and get a chance to meet some of the young ball players and plug their mind with what they want to get out of the game and what they're looking for and seeing if I can help them out.  I know they're going ask me a lot of questions and I'm hoping that I can give them the answer that make them relax a little and enjoy the game of baseball.
