PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -
The YMCA in Plattsburgh is celebrating 125 years of serving the community. And it's kicking off a fund drive to help it expand.
The $125,000 campaign will renovate locker and weight rooms at the "Y" downtown, and expand Camp Jericho, a summer camp for kids in the town of Altona.
"We're flat out of room," explaind YMCA Executive Director Kevin Killeen. "What we really need is a new YMCA; but that's millions of dollars which I don't think any of us think that with this economy any of us could pull off at this stage. So this is our answer to that."
Board and staff members have put up the first $25,000 for the project. The local Y serves more than 2,500 families in the Plattsburgh area.
