A 16-year-old in from Upper Valley who was struck by lightning over the weekend has passed away.
Connor Cook was working at a farm in Post Mills Saturday when he was hit by a bolt of lightning.
He was transported from the scene in critical condition and has been on life support ever since.
Connor died Wednesday at the hospital surrounded by his family.
He was going into his junior year at Thetford Academy. Grief councilors have been on hand at the school and will be there again Thursday. School officials say Connor was a vibrant member of the community and will be dearly missed. They released the following statement:
Dear members of the TA community, and all who are part of the lives of Connor Cook, Kylie, and parents Clyde and Marilyn,
We have just received the following message from the Cook family, and their request is that it be shared with you immediately.
"Marilyn, Clyde and Kylie would like to let the Thetford Academy students and parents know that Connor passed away peacefully with his family by his side today, June 27th, 2012. Connor's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Thetford Academy community for their love and support during this difficult time. Information will be forthcoming about service and memorial arrangements."
We are gathered in the library at the Academy with counselors on hand. Please come and join us as you wish and feel able.
