NY hospital restricts visitors over pertussis concerns

Concerns about pertussis have officials at Adirondack Health in Saranac Lake restricting access to its birthing center. Only fathers or significant others are allowed to visit.

Officials say there has been an increase in reports of people in the area with symptoms similar to pertussis; fever and a deep nagging cough that makes a whooping sound. Pertussis is highly contagious and infants are particularly vulnerable to pertussis, and complications for them can be severe.
