Visiting anglers clean Plattsburgh park

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -

Four-hundred of the best bass fishermen in the country are heading to Plattsburgh.

The city is hosting the Wal-Mart FLW Tour, one of several major fishing tournaments this summer on Lake Champlain.

About 20 anglers arrived early to get in a little practice. While here, they pitched in to help clean up Waterhouse Park along the banks of the Saranac River.

"We try to do something like this at every stop just to make sure we give back to the communities that are hosting us to just say thank you," said Zach Caudle, a pro fisherman from Shreveport, La.

"We just don't go to a place to fish, we are trying to help the community as well," said Andres Upshaw, a pro fisherman from Hemphill, Texas.

Clearing away decades of brush will help open up the Saranac for fishing and for families to enjoy.

The FLW Tour is the biggest tournament on Lake Champlain with a top prize of $125,000. It's also broadcast to hundreds of millions of TV viewers around the world and brings in millions in business to the Plattsburgh region.
