Brian HousealELIZABETHTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Brian Houseal is stepping down after 10 years as executive director of the Adirondack Council, the Adirondack Park's largest environmental organization.
Ann Carmel, chairwoman of the board of trustees, says Houseal will remain until the end of October. Then Deputy Director Diane Fish of Lake Placid will serve as acting director while the board conducts a nationwide search for Houseal's successor.
One of the Council's first accomplishments under Houseal's leadership was its support for the Clean Air Interstate Rule, now known as the Cross State Pollution rule. It requires pollution cuts from power plants in 23 states to reduce acid rain and mercury pollution in the Adirondacks.
Houseal is co-founder of the Common Ground Alliance, which brought community development and environmental leaders together to build a common agenda.
