Newfane man arrested in attack

NEWFANE, Vt. -

Police have arrested a Newfane man for beating a couple with a metal pipe.

It happened Saturday night at the alleged attacker's home along Route 30.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports that Harry Goddard, 57, saw the couple walking to his home and came out the front door swinging the weapon.

Police believe alcohol played a factor in the attack, but it's still unclear exactly why he hit the couple.

Both the man and woman suffered minor injuries. Goddard is now being charged with aggravated assault.
