Roderick Geronimo
EAST POULTNEY, Vt. -
Vermont State police say an East Poultney woman was murdered and they have arrested her adopted son for the crime.
Police got a report of an unresponsive woman at a home at On the Green Road at 12:23 p.m. Monday. When crews responded, they found Gertrudes Alwardt, 80, of East Poultney. She was rushed to the hospital in Rutland where she later died.
Investigators say Alwardt's adopted son, Roderick Geronimo, 49, of East Poultney, used physical violence to kill Alwardt. He was arrested Monday afternoon and is being held on $1 million bail.
He's scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday for second-degree murder.
There will be an autopsy to determine Alwardt's exact cause of death.
