Roderick Geronimo
EAST POULTNEY, Vt. -
Vermont State police say an East Poultney woman was murdered and they have arrested her adopted son for the crime.
About 20 state police officers were still on the scene late Monday night, collecting evidence from inside the Green Road home and conducting interviews around the neighborhood.
Police got a 911 call at 12:23 p.m. Monday. It came from Roderick Geronimo, 49. He stated that his adoptive mother, Gertrudes Alwardt, 80, was unresponsive. She was rushed to the hospital in Rutland, where she later died.
Both Geronimo and Alwardt lived in the home.
At the hospital, police say Geronimo confessed that he caused his mother's death. Police won't say what happened yet, but do say the death was a result of physical violence. They say they'll know a lot more Tuesday when their evidence can be processed, and the autopsy results are in.
Geronimo is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday for second-degree murder.
