Air Force says Vt ranked properly in F-35 site selection

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The U.S. Air Force is dismissing allegations that Vermont should not have been a finalist to host the F-35.

The Air Force ranked the national guard base at the Burlington airport as one of two preferred sites for new jets.

But last week, South Burlington City Council president Roseanne Greco said she had heard from a source in the Air Force that "grave mistakes" were made in the selection process with regard to the environmental impact of the planes.

Tuesday, the Air Force addressed those allegations, saying the initial scoring of Burlington was done correctly and that its ranking as a preferred site is valid.
