BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -
A late-night fire on Monday is now being called a total loss. The three-alarm fire lit up a home on Western Avenue. Tuesday, excavators took down what the flames left behind.
Homeowners Peter Diamondstone and Doris Lake were inside at the time with their dog and had just woken up from a nap. They were able to get out safely, but they lost the house and a cabin on the property they planned to rent out.
The family told the Brattleboro Reformer this is the second blow to the property-- they almost lost it to Irene last summer.
