MORRISTOWN, Vt. -
From a wave of the American flag to the smaller details, like a flag pedicure, hundreds of people came out to celebrate Independence Day in Morristown Wednesday.
"Just the pride in America and in our community," Jill Shank said.
Shank has been coming to this Fourth of July parade for over 30 years with her kids and now her grandchildren.
"This is just the place to be," she said. "There is so many memories here and so many people I know."
Dozens of groups marched the route this year.
"It's mostly a local parade," town administrator Dan Lindley said. "We get the classic cars, the fire departments; this year we have 10 veterans' organizations walking in the parade."
"I really like the floats and the music," said Joseph Adams, 8.
"And the decorations," added his sister, Amelia Adams, 9.
"And I like the giant people," Joseph said.
From the traditional, to the more spirited-- like "The Sound of the Music" nuns from the Hyde Park Opera House riding in style.
Reporter Gina Bullard: Why the yellow Mustang?
Beth Carrier/Hyde Park Opera House: It's true nuns have more fun! (laughs)
And no matter what your political views are the Fourth of July is still a time to reflect on freedom.
Gina Bullard: What does the Fourth of July mean to you?
Dick Patterson/Parade-goer: Independence, do what we want when we want. No worries.
"Independence Day," Amelia said.
"Same as her," Joseph agreed.
Shank said, "No matter the politics or the economy or whatever else is going on, I'm just proud to be an American and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else."
Morristown continued the festivities into the night with fireworks.
