WILLISTON, Vt. -
Lab results are in on contaminated compost made by the Chittenden Solid Waste District under the brand name Green Mountain Compost.
Compost sold in bulk between mid-April and the end of May tested positive for a trace amount of two persistent herbicides-- clopyralid and picloram. The two chemicals target the photosynthesis process. CSWD does not know how it got into the compost and is working on ways to get it out. CSWD also says it is confident the herbicides are not harmful to humans.
