Bennington man charged with cruelty for shooting own dog

BENNINGTON, Vt. -

A Bennington man has been charged with animal cruelty for shooting his own dog.

Police responded to an anonymous report of shots fired in the White Birches Mobile Home Park. Officers found a pit bull dead from gunshot wounds still chained to its doghouse.

The dog's owner, Edward Trombley, 47, later told police he shot the dog because it was mean, he hadn't been able to train it and it had nipped at him.

Trombley is a convicted felon and not allowed to possess firearms.
