LAKE CLEAR, N.Y. -

New York State Police Newsroom:

On July 7, 2012, at approximately 8:57 a.m., State Police in Ray Brook responded to a two-car accident which occurred on State Route 30 in Lake Clear. Investigation has revealed a 2010 Dodge Journey, operated by William F. Martin, age 92, of Lake Clear, New York, pulled out of the Lake Clear post office parking lot into the path of a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Tucker R. Houghton, age 20, of Vermontville, New York.

Houghton was traveling west on State Route 30 towing a sixteen foot Monarch fishing boat and trailer.

Houghton was unable to avoid Martin's vehicle and struck it on the driver's side causing heavy damage. Martin was transported by ambulance to the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake where he was pronounced deceased by Doctor Adam Abodeely at 9:53 a.m. Houghton and a female passenger refused treatment at the scene but later drove to AMC Saranac Lake by private vehicle and were treated and released for minor injuries. The Troop B Collision Reconstruction Unit responded and are assisting in the investigation.

An autopsy was performed on Martin by Dr. C. Francis Varga at AMC Saranac Lake who determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma from the motor vehicle collision. Manner of death is pending a ruling by Franklin County Coroner Ronald Keough. Franklin County District Attorney Derek Champagne advised. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
