BURLINGTON, Vt. -
The game of Bocce dates back to the Roman Empire. It's a ball sport in which players try to roll their four bocce balls closest to a smaller ball called the jack. Whoever has the closest number of bocce balls to the jack gets the most points. Organizers say the sport has a growing contingency of young people in Burlington.
Zander Ponzo, of the Burlington Bocce Club, said Saturday, "Initially when we started 5 years ago it was a lot of Bosnian Americans and older folks. Now its not as many Bosnian Americans and its younger folks and we have more numbers."
Dues for the club are fifteen dollars. There are free courts at Oakledge park, and the Burlington Parks and Recreation Department lends equipment.
