LEBANON, N.H. -
Two area hospitals are joining forces.
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center has added 70 doctors to its payroll. However, they will continue to be located and work with patients at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.
Under the new agreement, SVMC will have access to Dartmouth's specialists and research. And on the flip side, Dartmouth will have access to SVMC's services like nursing home facilities and hospice care.
"As health care evolves, these kinds of collaborations between community hospitals and academic medical centers, between physicians, become increasingly more important to get to that goal of population health. To have a stable health care system that works in favor of the patient, rather in favor of the system," said Rick Adams of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
Southwestern Vermont Medical Center looked at a number of hospitals throughout New England before deciding to partner with DHMC.
