RUTLAND, Vt. -
Vermont state police had a busy day Tuesday rescuing lost hikers.
In Woodford, Michael McEnteggart, 70, of Florida, called police after getting lost along the Long Trail. He was not properly equipped to spend a long duration in the woods. But before search teams were far in, McEnteggart exited on his own near a residence on Old Harbour Rd. just after 7 p.m.
Also Tuesday, a husband and wife got lost around the Lefferts Pond Trail in Chittenden. The duo from the Caribbean lost their way, ending up on a VAST snowmobile trail, where troopers picked them up.
And police rescued a New York man who got lost and stuck in a swamp while hiking Baker's Peak in Rutland. They say Adam Santiago got separated from a friend, who called police after Santiago didn't show up. Four hours later, residents heard him calling for help. The 28-year-old said he became lost, stuck in the mud, while coming down the mountain.
All of the lost hikers were uninjured.
