HANOVER, N.H. -
There is a new eye-catching sculpture on the campus of Dartmouth College.
The large wall piece, which consisted of five colorful panels, was created by Ellsworth Kelly. Kelly is an internationally-recognized artist known for incorporating color into the surrounding environment. The "Dartmouth Panels," as they are called, are located on the eastern façade of the Hopkins Center for the Arts.
"It is a liberal arts educational institution and the visual is very much a part of that-- visual creativity. And as we understand, increasingly as we are in this world is creativity and imagination are very important parts in all aspects of life," said Kathy Hart of Dartmouth College.
The sculpture was commissioned by Leon and Debra Black. The couple donated $48 million toward the creation of the Black Family Visual Arts Center. Construction on that building is almost complete. It's located directly across from the newly installed "Dartmouth Panels."
