BURLINGTON, Vt. -
An invasive species is heading for Lake Champlain, and it could create problems for anglers.
The spiny water flea is headed for the lake through the Champlain Canal system. New York officials found five species in water samples taken from the canal last month.
Biologists say though it isn't as much of a threat as other species already in the lake, it could displace native plankton that the fish feed on.
Unless the canal between the Hudson River and the lake is closed, they say the microscopic crustacean will show up.
