BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Beach-goers in Burlington beware: There may be dangerous blue-green algae in the water. The parks and recreation department has posted warning signs at city beaches as a precaution.
Algae blooms can irritate skin and make people sick if swallowed. It can also be lethal to pets.
The alert comes after several reports of algae along the waterfront. Water samples are being tested by the state health department, but the results are not expected back until Friday. In the meantime, city beaches are still open, but people are advised to keep their dogs out of the water.
