NH correctional officer accused of drug smuggling

Posted: Updated:

KEENE, N.H. (AP) - A correctional officer at a New Hampshire jail has been charged with helping to smuggle drugs to inmates.

Police arrested 23-year-old Shane Stockwell of Swanzey on Thursday. He was employed as a correctional guard at the Cheshire County Jail in Keene for over a year.

Stockwell is accused of coordinating with inmates to smuggle drugs into the secured facility. Police said surveillance conducted at the jail on Wednesday showed evidence being placed under a correctional guard's vehicle and then picked up by Stockwell, who was then confronted by detectives.

Stockwell is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 1. It wasn't immediately known if he had a lawyer.
