BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Burlington's mayor has a new leader and a new plan for the city airport.
The Burlington International Airport has struggled through some difficult years, in part due to fewer passengers as a result of the recession. But Mayor Miro Weinberger, D-Burlington, says things are turning around and he wants to chart a new course forward.
Friday, he called for the creation of a strategic planning committee to help stabilize airport finances and increase airline service.
Weinberger also appointed airport commission chairman Gene Richards to be the new interim manager. Weinberger is asking the City Council to approve Richards as interim director until a new permanent director can be hired in six to nine months and to approve the formation of the strategic planning committee.
