The massive equipment for a commercial wind project in the Northeast Kingdom has started to arrive.
Green Mountain Power plans to erect 21 wind turbines on a ridge in Lowell. A great deal of work has been completed on the ridge lines, now workers are getting closer to putting up the 400-foot towers.
At the bottom of the mountain, you can see sections of the towers in the parking lot. Officials say some of the equipment is coming by rail into Island Pond before being trucked over Lowell. It's expected there could be traffic tie-ups next week as more of the equipment arrives.
This project was supported by voters in Lowell and the governor, but has faced criticism from some who argue it's destroying the environment and ratepayers will get very little in return.
