Barre loses water lawsuit

BARRE, Vt. -

A federal judge ruled against the city of Barre in a lawsuit over water for tenants.

A Barre woman sued, saying the city shut off her water supply for two weeks because her landlord had not paid the bill.

Judge Christian Reis found that the city's water ordinances violate tenants' rights. She says they should be given proper notice and be allowed to weigh in when the city is threatening to shut off water to rental properties.
