BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Gasoline prices dropped slightly in the Burlington area last week, while the rest of the nation held steady.
The average price in the Burlington area in now $3.56 per gallon -- down about two cents from last week. That compares to a statewide average of $3.52 per gallon and a national average of $3.42 a gallon.
Concerns have been raised about how high Burlington area prices have been in comparison to other parts of the state and the country. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has asked for a federal investigation. The gasoline distributors and dealers say prices are the result of market forces.
Nationally, experts say they expect prices to begin rising again.
