This week, we travel to Middlebury and we're catching up with the Middlebury Mud Hens softball team. The mud hens got off to an 8-0 start this season and never looked back. The girls range in age from 9 to 12 years old and some of them will be playing ball throughout the summer. They had a lot of fun the day our cameras caught them at practice and they couldn't wait for the chance to ask the Lake Monsters questions. Here's the first one:
Anna: "My favorite position is outfield, my question is who inspired you to play baseball?"
Michael Fabiaschi: "I would probably say my father inspired me to play baseball. Growing up I played a lot of baseball and basketball and he was always out there practicing with me. My mom was too. I can't leave her out, or she'll be upset."
Meredith: "I'm 11 years old and my favorite position is outfield. My question is when did the Lake Monsters team first start?"
Kyle Bostwick: The Vermont Expos started in 1994 before they changed their name to the Lake Monsters making this the 19th season for baseball in Burlington."
Nicole: "I'm 12 and I play third base. What do your practices consist of?"
Jim Coffman: "Sometimes during the season, what we'll do is we'll specifcially have a practice the next day going over some things that maybe we didn't cover or do well the day before. Primarilly with the pitchers, we're practing our pitches and routines in our daily bullpen sessions. If we have time, we'll work on our defense, which is pitchers covering basses, throwing to basses, bunt defense and things like that."
If you have a team you'd like to nominate for Meet the Monsters email Fleishman@wcax.com please include coach's name and contact information.
