CHATEAUGAY, N.Y. -
A teary-eyed Maynard Jarvis looked on
as New York State Police searched his son's house and property on White Street
in Chateaugay, looking for any clue into his disappearance.
"I would really like to know what
is going on," Maynard Jarvis said.
Dale Jarvis, 48, was last seen in late
February. His family never reported him missing because they had no indication
he may be in danger.
"I'm not prepared to discuss the
circumstances of the last encounter," N.Y. State Police Maj. Richard Smith
said.
Police were made aware of Jarvis'
disappearance three weeks ago when a confidential informant came forward.
"That information has led us to
what we are doing here now on this property," Smith said.
Neighbors weren't concerned either.
Jarvis' son DJ, who lives with him, gave them a reason for his dad's
disappearance.
"He said he got a job down
south," said Patricia Landry, who lives next door.
But police suspect that may not be
true. They're using cadaver dogs and carefully digging for evidence on the
property.
"We are certainly looking for any
clues into the disappearance of Mr. Jarvis up to and including his body could
be located on this property," Smith said.
Police say the search of Jarvis' home
and three-acre property will continue for days.
"We are prepared to do whatever
we have to do to search that entire parcel, three acres, to include digging and
sifting the ground for any clues," Smith said.
For now, Maynard Jarvis can only watch
as police search his son's property. He hopes for answers soon.
"I hope we hear something,"
he said, "not bad."
A family holding out hope that Dale
Jarvis may still be alive.
Anyone with information about what might
have happened to Dale Jarvis is asked to call the New York State Police.
