RICHFORD, Vt. -
Paddlers in our region are tasked with a big challenge this weekend -- to canoe hundreds of miles.
It's for the 740 miles in One Day challenge, put on by the Northern Forest Canoe Trail.
Paddlers are being encouraged to get out on the trail and cover any distance. Organizers are hoping to total up to 740 miles, the length of the trail.
They say the event is to encourage more people to take up paddling and to appreciate the trail itself, which Outside Magazine named the best in 2011.
"Because of that length there's such diversity of water types, small lakes, big rivers, small rivers, and I think the opportunity to travel into communities, the communities of the trail," says Kevin Mack with the Northern Forest Canoe Trail Challenge. "Richford, Vermont, for instance is on the trail. The trail doesn't take you around the town it takes you into and through the town."
That event is this Saturday, the 28th. You can register and log miles paddled on their website -- www.northernforestcanoetrail.org. Participants will have a chance to win a personalized paddle
