This week takes us to East Montpelier where the CVLL all-stars get to Meet the Monsters. This team is made up of 10 and 11 year olds from 7 different towns in the area. Their season is just getting going and they've been practicing hard 4 days a week looking for some good results. They have three questions for the Lake Monsters.
"My name is Logan, I'm 10 years old. My favorite position is Catcher. When did you realize you wanted to be a catcher?"
Bruce Maxwell: "That's a great question Logan. I realized it when I wanted to be a part of every play. I was determined to be the best and as a catcher there's a lot of hard work and a lot of determination so it instilled me to want to play and keep the work up so when I was 8 years old, I decided I wanted to be a catcher."
"My name is Noah. I'm 11 years old and I play first base. What drills should I be practicing for first base?"
John Wooten: "Hey Noah, that's a great question. First base is a really fun position. You're in a lot of action. One thing you really need to work on at first base is short hops. Sometimes your infielders are going to throw it wide, high. Sometimes they're not going to quite get it there. You and a buddy, you can get together and throw each other short hops and try to get better around the bag and another thing is just the footwork. Make sure you've got good feet around the bag that way you don't run into the runner. Other than that play hard and have fun."
"My name is Kyle. I'm 12 years old and my favorite position is pitcher. What style do you prefer, side arm or overarm?"
Drew Gagnier: "Hey Kyle, good question. My answer would be overarm. It's a lot healthier on your arm and you can get a good downward angle on the ball which helps you get hitters out."
