Construction moves forward on governor's new house

Posted: Updated:
EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Gov. Peter Shumlin is settling down near the state capital.

Construction is moving along on the 27-acre East Montpelier property he bought last month, with a foundation already in place.

Shumlin said he has no time frame for when he's moving into what he calls his energy-efficient cabin.

Neighbors we spoke with said they were pleased, if not a little envious about the governor's arrival on the block.

"I know how nice that land is, so I was actually impressed that he was able to find that. I thought it was interesting that we happen to be a neighbor of the governor now, but I was jealous that he got such a nice piece of land," a neighbor said.

He says the jury is still out on whether the dirt roads will now get more attention from road crews now that the governor lives there.

Though Shumlin rents a house in Montpelier, he says, for now, he's still a resident of Putney.
