WASHINGTON -
A major milestone in Senator Patrick Leahy's political career.
He cast his 14,000 roll call vote Wednesday. Just six other senators in history have done that. Prior to his historic vote several lawmakers, including Vermont's junior Senator Bernie Sanders honored Leahy touting all he has done for the state and the country. Leahy then had the floor, he thanked his colleagues, expressed his love for his job, and his wife, Marcelle.
"I have valued every single moment here and I will value every single moment as long as I am here. There is nothing I've accomplished throughout my whole public career without Marcelle's help. She raised three wonderful children and is helping to raise 5 wonderful grandchildren. Every single day I have been a better person because of her," said Leahy.
Senator Leahy first took office in 1975.
