NY bat tests positive for rabies

A bat in New York's Clinton County tested positive for rabies. And one person already received treatment due to exposure.

According to the Plattsburgh Press-Republican, the person exposed was not bitten but picked up the animal off the ground barehanded, resulting in exposure.

Health department workers say approximately 1 percent of the bat population carries a strain of rabies, but its best to avoid contact whenever possible.
