Staff at Addison County's open door clinic say a down economy and rising health care costs have nearly doubled the number of new patients they've seen this year.
To be served at the free clinic patients must earn below 300 percent of the federal poverty guideline, which is less than $34,000 annually for a single person or less than $68,000 for a family of four.
According to the Addison County Independent, most of the patients served are employed, but 46 percent of them do not get health insurance from their employer.
