BARRE, Vt. -
Smoke shops selling designer drugs are
being raided by the feds and local police.
The Drug Enforcement Administration
launched a national crackdown against manufacturers, distributors and vendors
of bath salts and other illegal compounds.
In Barre, local police seized hundreds
of packets of the banned substances from a shop there. Most of those synthetic
drugs became illegal in an emergency state rule on Friday.
Bath salts and drugs like it have caused a spike in
emergency room visits in Vermont. The drugs are being blamed for deaths around
the country.
