Could more neurosurgeons cut traffic deaths?

LEBANON, N.H. -

Researchers at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center found people killed in car crashes are most likely to die from a traumatic brain injury.

TBIs are usually treated by neurosurgeons. Researchers found that people in rural areas are more likely to die because they are further from where neurosurgeons practice. Slower response times and fewer trauma resources are also contributing factors.

Car crashes are the number one killer in America for people ages 1-34.

That research can be found in the latest edition of the Journal of Neurosurgery. Click here for more.
