Nurses and residents at the Vermont Veterans Home say the lack of staff is impacting the quality of care.
According to the Bennington Banner, staff work mandatory overtime on an almost daily basis. The union says the last four week work schedules contained 177 open shifts before anyone called off of work.
While probing into overtime hours at the state level, WCAX News learned a nursing assistant at the veterans home had the highest number of overtime hours of any state worker in 2010. She worked 2,040 hours.
Nurses are asking the state to approve additional hires.
