Quebec man who died in Seymour Lake had 'cardiac event'

MORGAN, Vt. -

MORGAN, Vt. (AP) - Vermont authorities say a Canadian man who died at Seymour Lake in Newport suffered what they've termed a cardiac event while swimming.

Authorities say 67-year-old Alan Archer of Stanstead, Quebec, was snorkeling Saturday afternoon when family members spotted him unconscious in the water.

Family members jumped into the water, pulled Archer ashore and called 911. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police had said the death did not appear suspicious, and now a death certificate from the state Health Department shows he had the heart problem before he died.
