This week, we're with the Lamoille County All stars get to Meet the Monsters! The All stars are made up of 9, 10 and 11 year olds from Eden, Cambridge and Wolcott. With just one week to prepare for the District 3 Little League play downs in St. Albans, the guys went 4-1.
George, an 11 year old catcher asks, "Do you have any tips on blocking the ball the best?"
Bruce Maxwell, Lake Monsters catcher: "Blocking the ball is the toughest thing for a catcher. If you can slide from side to side, not necessarily jump, keep your weight level to the ground and basically replace your feet on each side of you and make sure you're over the baseball. That would put you in the best catching position.
Joe, a 9 year old left fielder asks, "I'm a big pull hitter to left, so do you have any tips on hitting to right field?"
John Wooten, Lake Monsters First Baseman: "That's a typical thing that a lot of hitters do. We try to pull the ball. One thing that will really help you is if you try to stay inside the ball. Get a good pitch on the outer half to hit and really practice on a tee. Practice, practice, practice. Practice makes perfect and the more you practice the more it will carry over into the games."
Ryan, a third baseman asks, "How do you dive correctly to get to the ball?"
Jacob Tannis, Lake Monsters Third Baseman: "There's a few things you want to think about before you go diving for a ball. The first thing is knowing where the ground ball is going to be and running as hard as you can to try to get there in time. Then, you want to dive straight out with your arms extended and your glove flipped out facing the ball so you can grab it and make a great play."
