ADDISON, Vt. -
Road construction on Route 17 in Addison County is slowing travel for commuters in the area, but a break in the work is in sight.
The road is being shaved down and repaved, but the work often leaves travel open to a single lane.
Crews say they ran into some unexpected boulders while working on the road, which damaged some machines and caused delays, but by the time the Addison County Fair rolls around, they say the roadway will be mostly open for travel.
"We are gong to shut down operation on that road for the Addison County Field Days the 7-11. The only thing we are going to do is utilize some road maintenance and spray the road so dust doesn't fly and watch for potholes," says Brent Curtis with the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
The project is expected to be complete by the first week in November.
