MONTPELIER, Vt. -
As uncertainty continues over how much federal disaster relief Vermont will get for Tropical Storm Irene, charitable giving continues to provide valuable assistance to residents hurt by the flooding.
The Vermont Disaster Relief Fund announced Wednesday that is has allocated over $1.5 million in direct assistance to over 100 Vermont families who suffered losses during Irene and the spring floods of last year.
That money has all been donated by businesses and individuals or collected from fundraising events. And much more is needed. FEMA estimates as many as 700 more victims around the state are in need of additional assistance.
