BURLINGTON, Vt. -
With four weeks until the Aug. 28 primary, the campaign trail led Democrats Bill Sorrell and T.J. Donovan to WCAX to take part in a head-to-head debate.
Sorrell has held the Vermont attorney general job for 15 years. Donovan is the Chittenden County state's attorney. It's unusual for a candidate to try to unseat a long-standing incumbent in his own party.
They were cordial but the debate was full of criticisms, as Donovan attacked Sorrell. Sorrell lost a campaign finance case at the Supreme Court. And the case against Vermont Yankee could also be headed to the high court. So far in lower court the state has lost the case to close Yankee.
They engaged in sharp exchanges as both hope to win your vote to be the state's top law enforcement officer. Watch the video for more.
The winner of the Democratic primary will face Republican Jack McMullen. You can watch part 1 our two-part debate with Sorrell and Donovan Aug. 5 on You Can Quote Me. And part 2 will run the following Sunday, Aug 12. The debate covered a lot of issues from health care to police force to the labeling debate over Cabot cheese.
