Vt family still fighting to get dog back

TROY, Vt. -

A dog owner in Troy is not giving up her fight to get her pet back. And now she's got a few friends supporting her cause.

Annette Vallieres-Lawson lost her dog last month. Chewy ended up at a shelter 30 miles away, mistaken for a stray. He was legally adopted even though his old family was still searching for him. They started a "Free Chewy" Facebook page. It already has more than 2,000 supporters. A Vermont dog treat company has even offered to pay Chewy's adopted family $130 if they give the dog back.

Vallieres-Lawson is also working with the shelter to create a statewide database so shelters share information about lost pets and strays.
