Rutland Sidewalk Festival

RUTLAND, Vt. -

Vendors will take to the streets this Friday and Saturday in Rutland.

It's the city's annual sidewalk festival. Over 100 vendors will set up shop in the downtown for the two-day event. Some city streets will be closed to allow for an influx of foot traffic.

Organizers say this year they're linking the event with the weekly Saturday farmers market to promote produce, and hope to entice some vendors visiting for the event to possibly stay for good.

"It's a great opportunity for folks to discover or rediscover downtown. Maybe visit those shops they had forgotten about or that they didn't know existed, whether they be toy stores, jewelry or book stores," said Michael Coppinger of the Downtown Rutland Partnership. "A lot of time folks don't take time to see that. And by doing an event like this, to have music and great dining, it gives shoppers an opportunity to meander around and see these great things."

The sale is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
