MORIAH, N.Y. -
The Moriah Center Bridge is off limits to large vehicles, including fire trucks and school buses.
The state transportation department put a 5-ton weight limit on the bridge on Plank Road, saying it is not structurally safe.
About 5,000 cars use the bridge every day because it is the main connector from the Northway to Routes 9N and 22. The detour is 10 miles.
Plans call for a temporary bridge to go in in the coming weeks.
The Moriah Center Bridge was slated to be replaced next year-- a project that will cost just under $2 million.
