WAITSFIELD, Vt. -
A big festival kicked off this week in the Mad River Valley.
The Vermont Festival of the Arts is a monthlong event that celebrates movies, plays, art and food. About 120 different events are planned, including an art show in a round barn and a parade of benches. Different artists painted benches in the Valley. People can then bid on them. It's a fundraiser for the Valley Arts Foundation. One of the benches depicts Tropical Storm Irene. The artist even used river rocks that flooded into the community.
"It's a beautiful bench. It's baby blue. It's got rocks that were collected from different locations that were particularly struck, destructive in the river and they're all grounded on the seas. People wonder if it's comfortable. But it's extremely conformable to sit on. But as she was searching for these rocks, they found three heart-shaped rocks. And they're along the back of the bench," said Karen Nevin of the Vermont Festival of the Arts.
Festival events run through Labor Day. Click here for more on the Vermont Festival of the Arts.
