PERRY'S MILLS, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a northern New York man assaulted a woman then held her against her will in a cornfield before killing himself during a police standoff.
Police say 37-year-old Thomas Seymour of Champlain, near the Canadian border, went to the home of an ex-girlfriend Sunday evening and a dispute followed. Police say he had a knife and a gun when he went to the house where four children were home at the time.
They say Seymour assaulted the woman then forced her into a cornfield behind the home.
Seymour released the woman shortly after midnight then shot himself.
