Armando Vilaseca
MONTPELIER, Vt. -
Vermont's education commissioner will be applying for his own job.
Thursday, Gov. Peter Shumlin announced a nationwide search for an education chief. It will be the first time that a governor has been able to make that appointment. Currently, the state Board of Education appoints and directs a commissioner.
The Board of Education will conduct the job search and will send at least three names to the governor for consideration.
Current Education Commissioner Armando Vilaseca says he expects to apply for the job.
The change takes effect at the beginning of next year.
